I have to share something with all of you that might give us some much needed relief. Several weeks a go a friend of ours was telling me about a supplement that she was taking that gave her a little more energy. I thought I would try it so I found it online and ordered some. It is called Astaxanthin ...what a name right! It is something that a certain type of algae in our oceans produce and is found in the sea food we eat. The friend recommended 12mg strength so that is what we ordered. I had taken a gel cap a day for about two weeks and didn't see any difference if my levels of fatigue so one day I took two. I didn't associate it till about a week later but the next day I was completely Lupus symptom free for about two hours. It was absolutely heavenly!!! The following weekend I was thinking about those two splendid hours and started wondering if the supplement had any thing to do with it. This past week I started taking two gel caps a day and have experienced around a 60 to 70% reduction in the pain levels that I usually have. We have a blizzard warning out for this area right now and the barometer is dropping. That usually makes me very weak and causes a lot of pain. I am not experiencing any of that! In reading about the benefits of this supplement it says that it is an anti inflammatory among other benefits and this is the only thing that I can think is causing the relief. There have been no disturbances in the effects of my prescriptions from it. I have been on a prescription anti inflammatory for three years but have never seen the relief I have had this past week. I need to let you all know about this so that if you are interested in trying it you can. I am praying that this isn't a short lived thing and that it can bring long term relief to all that suffer from this wicked disease. If you try this please let me know if you see any differences from it. Attachments:

Also, I would never stop taking my regular meds. No matter how hard I look for that magic pill, I really don't believe it is out there. Hopefully they will someday find the cure for lupus but until then we can look for and share with each other things that might help.

Quite so Pat. I also believe we should never really give up on our regular meds, but there maybe something which is healthy/natural which can be used in conjunction with regular meds which may help. Its worthwhile keeping our eyes and ears wide open. I once went to see a chinese herberlist and he recommended some tablets. I asked the doctor, and he said, they may or may not work. My doctor doesnt mind alternative health, but some doctors can be totally against it. I didnt get to try the thing the herbalist recommended as it was so expensive for me at the time. I will go back there though and get the name of it, and look into that more too. It was a free consultation which this chinese herbalist doctor, which some will do the consultation for free if they think you might end up buying a product from then in the future. Thanks again Pat.xoxo

Hi Jujubeee! I am still taking the supplement and am doing good! The level of pain is still reduced. My digestive track is also under attack from lupus and it seems to have relieved the inflammation there too. My tummy isn't puffed up and sore like it usually is. There is still no easing of fatigue but there are other factors in that like thyroid and sleep apnea. We have met before on the other support site with Astrid and Janice. My user name was Patter. As for the photo of the little one....you know how grandma's can be with pictures of their Grandkids! Let me know how you do with the supplement if you do try it. I hope and pray that it helps you too. Hugs to you too!

Ok, as an update, I am now at the end of week 2 for taking Astaxanthan supplement and I am still feeling good. It might be a coincidence but I have to tell all of you that I haven't felt this good in a long time. I still have fatigue but my legs and arms have had so much relief from pain it is amazing. In reading more information on this supplement I have found that it prompts a persons body to have a healthy response to inflammation. We had two winter storms pass through our area this week. Typically a storm will just about put me in bed but I had no pain when they hit. I haven't had to take a pain pill since i started this Astaxanthin. My husband says he can see it in my face that I am not hurting as much. I have looked so haggard the past 10 years that was music to my ears? I do think I will try to contact the Lupus Research Institute and see if they have done any research on this supplement.

Hi Pat, Thank you for your post, thats amazing if the Astaxanthan is making a difference. I have an appointment with the doctor in a couple of weeks, so i will see what he says, and whether i can take it with all my meds. I would of thought so but you never know. As you know i am on a heck of alot of different meds, and even natural meds can mess with the meds, as i found out before from my Rheumy. Its mad isnt it really, but some things just dont agree with others. I hope i can give them a try. I will make a note to myself to ask, as you know what its like when we get into the doctors sometimes, we forget things we are meant to ask because there are other things we have gone in for, and you get distracted. Otherwise i will send my Rhuemy a note, as he does reply to letters quite quickly. I hope you carry on feeling abit better. I am so pleased for you Pat. That would be a good idea to contact the Lupus Research Institute and ask if they have done any research or have heard that this supplement can be helpful to people with with Lupus or any other inflammatory conditions too. Bye for now, love and huge hugsxoxoxo
